*Set in Eclipse, when a wolf is watching Bella instead of a vamp* He never got used to being away from her.
No matter how long he was gone from Bella, whether it was because he was out hunting or whatever, it still got to him. He just couldn't bear to leave her alone. Something could be happening to her, right now. And the worst part was, there was nothing he could do about it. And no matter what those dogs said, yes, he would know. He was so attuned to Bella as it was. The only problem was, he couldn't hear her thoughts. No matter how hard he tried, nothing. It was kind of a pain, though he knew she was secretly pleased about it. But if Bella didn't want him in her head, he would keep it that way.
Edward let out a huge sigh, standing perfectly still in the meadow. A rush of emotion filled his body as he remembered back to the time he'd brought Bella here. They had been content to just sit here, quietly, tracing each others' figures. The memory brought a smile to his cold, stone face. He was so lost in the memories that, believe it or not, he didn't hear someone step into the dark meadow behind him.

Charlie. Charlie, Charlie, Charlie. Bella was tired of his excuses of her being with Edward. She knew he wanted her to be with Jacob, but she didn't have feelings for him that she had with Edward... Did she? She bit her bottom lip. She sat in her room all morning, waiting for Edward to return. Once he didn't, she got a little worried. She called the Cullen house, but Edward was no where to be found. With a sigh, Bella put on a pair of sneakers, jeans, and a teeshirt on.
Bella started to walk out in the middle of the woods. Okay, so maybe this wasn't the best idea wandering out alone. But she was trying to remember the place where Edward had showed her a certain place... She loved that place, more than any place in Forks. She didn't know if he was there or not, if he wasn't, she could still sit there and remember her first time there.
Seeing Edwards outline in the open meadow, a big smile appeared on her face. She walked out past the bushes and to Edward, wrapping her arms around him form behind. A smug smile was on her face as she did. "Hey there." She let go and took a step back, waiting for him to turn.

Even now, though deep down inside Edward knew she was safe with the wolves prowling around outside her house, he felt horrible about leaving Bella. Being apart just killed him [hypothetically]. He knew he didn't deserve her, not one bit, but he still couldn't let go of her. There was no one out there for him besides her, and he would not lose her. He wouldn't harm her, let anything happen to her at all. He loved her too much to even think about that.
Thoughts of Bella, his only love, were still running through his head when he finally realized someone had walked into the clearing. Wait...no. She couldn't be. She was at home, with Charlie. She wouldn't go against such rules like that. She knew better, she wouldn't be out wandering when someone was out there trying to kill her [other than Victoria, of course]. But there was no denying that scent. It was Bella, all right. Still standing straight and perfectly motionless, he felt her wrap her arms around him. But God, it felt so good! How could he not succumb to that, no matter how frustrated he was right now?
Slowly, very slowly, Edward turned around. Yes, that was her, all right. Not that he hadn't been able to tell the minute he knew someone was in the clearing. But it surprised him -- annoyed him -- that he hadn't noticed her coming earlier. Even if he couldn't hear her thoughts, he would be able to tell that she was coming from miles off. Oh, well. Not worth crying over spilled milk. "Bella," he said in a quiet voice, and no matter how ticked off he was [and not with her], the tenderness he felt for her was heard snekaing into his tone. "Bella, love, what are you doing here?" It was no use trying to be mad at anyone when she was acting like this. Damn wolves.... Why didn't they stop her?

Bella could feel that edward didn't want her here. Did she do something wrong or mess up some plans. She thought long and hard. There was a plan going on wasn't there. How could she forget? The werewolves were supposed to be watching her, and she forgot. How much of an idiot could she possibly be? And why didn't the werewolves spot her before she got out? These questions bothered her, giving her a confused look on her face. She looked up at Edward, afraid of what he might say or do.
"Bella, love, what are you doing here?"
Bella looked down, a disappointed look on her face, as if she didn't want to be here anymore. She bit her bottom lip, then looked back up at Edward. "I missed you... I wanted to see you..." She said, making her voice seem sweet and innocent. She knew that she got her way with Edward sometimes when she did that. And what she wanted was to stay here with Edward as if there was something wrong.
"Please don't make me go back..." She sighed and looked down. She wanted to be with Edward. She wanted to know what was running through his head. Was there anger? Sadness? Happy to see her? It sometimes drove her crazy as it did him to her. Edward made her crazy. She was crazy in love with him. If only he hunderstood..
